CANADIAN SHOWCASE (strictly)

The object of this category is to highlight the best All around dancers in Canada, with strong emphasis on improvisation and choreography set on the music. Competitors must register with a partner.

 

MUSIC- All couples will get 1 min of 3 musical selections chosen for this competition (there will be one final round). All musical selection titles will be available for competitor review on Friday night. Couples pre-registered for the event may submit musical suggestions to the organizers. Proof of Canadian residency required.

 

·         70% swing content required (ECS, Various forms of Shag, Balboa, Charleston, Traditional Jazz steps and of course Lindy Hop).

·         Pre-choreographed routines are allowed

·          Costumes and/or matching or themed clothes are allowed and encouraged.

·          Break-a-ways and side by side patterns are permitted.

·          At least three partner weight support moves are required with the partner at knee level or above. (competition total all rounds incl.)

·          Atl east one partner weight support move is required with the partner above the waist. (competition total, all rounds incl.) Finals will be conducted in Spotlight, Jam Circle fashion.

PRO-AM

·          Amateur dancers dancing with professional dancers.

·          The pro dancer must dance, teach or perform swing dance as a source of regular (every month throughout the year) revenue; by extension the amateur can not.

·         Fee for the competition is to be paid by the amateur

·          Pros may dance up to 3 times with different amateurs during the competition.

·          Swing Couples rules apply.

·          Couples must maintain physical contact except for spins, turns, short break-a-ways (16 beat maximum), and recoveries.

·         Dancers must maintain their own physical contact with the floor during partner weight support moves. No aerials.

·         Dancers must never have placed 3rd place or higher in a Rockabilly Jive competition for the Newcomer division

·       An Open division. If enough couples register, it can be divided into Newcomer/Novice, Intermediate and Advanced. If divided the couple has to dance at the level of the highest rated partner in WSDC points.

·          Break-aways, drops and side by side patterns are permitted.

·          This division will be limited to 30 couples.
